Types of Dental Implants
There are different types of dental implants: All-on-4® implants, single-tooth implants, multiple-tooth implant bridges, and implant-supported dentures. Dr McNamara and our team can help determine which type of implant will be most beneficial for you, depending on your smile's unique characteristics.
Single-Tooth Dental Implants
Single-tooth dental implants are the simplest and most predictable long-term option to replace a gap or missing tooth. The dental implant is made from titanium or ceramic in the shape of a tooth root that is surgically placed in the bone. Fortunately, bone does not contain nerve endings like gums or skin, so the procedure is far less painful than a dental extraction.
We use 3-D printed surgical guilds generated from CAD-CAM software to guarantee your dental implant is in the most ideal position. A porcelain ceramic crown is then either screwed or cemented to the implant. This can be done on the same day, but it commonly takes three months.
Multiple-Tooth Implant Bridges
If the space is larger than a single tooth, there is an option of placing more than one dental implant so multiple teeth can be joined to form a bridge over the space left behind by missing teeth. These implants I've you more teeth to smile with and opposing teeth partners to chew against.
Unlike conventional bridgework, a fixed dental implant bridge doesn't affect the longevity and health of adjacent teeth, as they are not involved. These can be of great value in some circumstances as you can get two teeth supported from one implant and three to six teeth supported from two dental implants, depending on how much bone you have in the area.
Implant-Supported Dentures
Most patients cannot tolerate traditional dentures because they bounce up and down on the gums, wiggle side-to-side and rub during eating and speaking. A common solution to this problem is to have two dental implants in the lower or upper jaw to secure and stabilise your dentures.
These implants have locator 'clips' that attach to the denture and hold it in place, allowing you to function day-to-day with comfort and ease without your denture shifting or rubbing against your gums.
Patients can unclip and remove the dentures for cleaning, when needed.
All-on-4™ Dental Implants
Daley Street Dental is a fully accredited 'All-on-4' dental clinic. The All-on-4 treatment concept was developed by Dr Paulo Maló, the founder of Malo Clinic, as a solution for people who have lost or anticipate losing all of their teeth. This procedure allows patients to have their terminal remaining teeth removed, and on the same day, have four implants placed that can support a brand new fixed upper and lower smile. This surgical technique enables patients to progress from their current situation to wearing All-on-4 implant-supported teeth without ever suffering the inconvenience of wearing traditional removable dentures.
Dr McNamara has completed intensive All-on-4 training in Florida under world-renowned US surgeon, Anthony Schlar, using the Maló protocol. Dr McNamara is happy to have a complimentary and confidential chat if you think this may be a suitable solution for your current situation.
speak. Dental implants are a permanent, reliable solution to tooth loss. Unlike removable dentures, dental implants look like natural teeth, chew like natural teeth, and require you to clean them like natural teeth.
